Dr Julie-Anne Long is a Lecturer in Dance and Performance in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University. She is an award winning dance artist who holds a PhD from UNSW titled 'Walking in Sydney Looking for Dancing: an auto-ethnographic mapping of the place of independent dance' (2010) and an MA (Hons) in Performance from UWS Nepean (1999). Since graduating from the VCA in the early 1980s she has performed and choreographed on a wide range of projects with companies such as One Extra, Theatre of Image, Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Bell Shakespeare, Open City and Dance Works. She has worked in a variety of dance contexts as mentor, dramaturg, curator and producer including Acting Director of Critical Path (2006-07) and Dance Curator at Campbelltown Arts Centre (2009-10). In 2008 Julie-Anne was the recipient of a prestigious two-year Australia Council Fellowship, which supported research, development and the realization of a body of work entitled The Invisibility Project that focused on female representation in live performance. Her current research explores new models of performance making and community building in dance.
