Meredith Rogers

Meredith Rogers has worked in theatre as a director, designer, dramaturg and performer for 40 years – most recently performing in Bagryana Popov’s site and time specific Uncle Vanya in Avoca Project, March 2015. She played Clytemnestra in James McCaughey’s 1974 Oresteia and was actor/manager for the Mill Community Theatre Company1979-81. She was assistant director at the Ewing and George Paton Galleries for 5 years and a founding member of the editorial collective of Lip a feminist journal of the visual arts. Meredith co-founded the feminist Home Cooking Theatre Co in the 1980s and received the Ewa Czjawor award for a woman director in 2003 for a production of Peta Tait and Martra Robertson’s Breath by Breath, which was also nominated for a Green Room best production award. Her Masters thesis (University of Melbourne 2008) is entitled Directing Transformation as Performed Event and asks what is the nature of the transformation that occurs in the process of making a piece of theatre or performance? Her doctoral thesis (2014/15 University of Melbourne) is a history of the Mill Community Theatre Company. She taught theatre and performance making at La Trobe University for more than twenty years and is co-editor of the Australasian Drama Studies journal. She has published occasional reviews in Real Time, academic articles in ADS and elsewhere as well as a chapter in Helen Vivian’s When You Think About Art? The Ewing and George Paton Galleries 1971 – 2008, Melbourne Australia, Macmillan 2008
